Due to the storm forecast for the Southern Maine coast on Saturday, the Marine Animal Lifeline is changing the seal release date from Saturday the 17th to Sunday the 18th. Seal #46 is being returned to the wild! She has enjoyed her time at the Marine Animal Lifeline facility and the staff has given her clearance for return to the sea. I'm hoping to make it to Scarborough this Saturday at noon to witness the event and perhaps take a picture or two. It would be great to see this little lady return to her home just over a month after I scooped her off a beach on a stormy day...

Isn't she beautiful?
In my last posting I described a seal rescue. I referred to the seal as "he" and now know that I should have written "she". The juvenile female harp seal that we gathered on Valentine's Day was transported to the Marine Animal Lifeline facility in Westbrook. She was suffering from dehydration and malnutrition and had beached herself at the onset of a serious storm. She is recovering nicely and should return to the wild soon. Each recovered seal is tagged with a number just in case the Lifeline gets a repeat visit from the same animal. This lucky girl is #46.
